Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is seeking a dynamic full-time tenure- track teacher in Mathematics beginning in the fall of 2023.

This nine-month faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor rank with a teaching load of approximately 36 quarter credits and 9 credits of scholarship and service per year is a great professional and personal opportunity. In addition to teaching on campus and online mathematics and/or statistics courses, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination of both developmental and introductory mathematics pathways within EOU. The incumbent will also develop pathways from high schools and community colleges to EOU. Release time from teaching will be provided for this role as determined by the Dean.

The Mathematics program at EOU has four primary objectives: To provide a major in mathematics that develops the attitude of mind and analytical skills required for effective use and understanding of mathematics. To provide a major which prepares students for a variety of career choices, including graduate study, industrial and business careers, and secondary school teaching. Within teaching, more generally, to prepare highly qualified teachers of mathematics for elementary, middle and secondary schools. To provide the necessary mathematical and statistical support courses for students in other disciplines, including computer science, physical and biological sciences, social science, business and economics, and health. To provide all students with mathematics instruction to satisfy the State of Oregon’s mathematics graduation requirement.

Candidates should demonstrate: Effective quality teaching and assessment; Effectiveness in applying technology to teaching; Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, administration, and public school and community-college personnel; Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Appointment begins September 16, 2023.

Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics or related degree from a regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent is required. Evidence of successful experience teaching undergraduate mathematics courses both in person and online is required. Candidates nearing completion of their doctorate (ABD) may be considered. Commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level; Demonstrated successful experience in teaching undergraduate-level university mathematics classes, particularly online teaching experience.

Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment. Valid work authorization documents are required.
