The Governor’s School for Science and Technology (GSST) at New Horizons Education Centers invites applications for a 10-month renewable appointment at the rank of Instructor, starting August 2023. One position is available, focusing on advanced education of gifted STEM students. Teaching assignments include Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. Relative to teaching expectations, the expectations for scholarship and service are minimal. Four courses are taught between 7 to 8 am, 8 to 9 am, 1 to 2 pm, and 2 to 3 pm. The hours between 9 am and 1 pm involve meetings, preparation, scholarship, and service. The GSST is a public program for gifted high school juniors and seniors. The student body includes approximately 90 seniors and 90 juniors. These students are in the top 10% of the seven participating school divisions in the Hampton Roads region. The goals of the program include preparing students for top tier STEM universities. The faculty is an amicable group of about fourteen. There are four mathematics instructors, two biological sciences instructors, two computer science instructors, two physics and engineering instructors, a data science instructor, and two to three research instructors. QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a Master’s or Doctorate degree in mathematics. Minimum of 1 years of teaching experience preferred. SALARY: Approximately $50,000 to $75,000 depending on experience.
