Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics to begin September 1, 2023.

Department Information: You will be joining a department of twelve faculty who are passionate about teaching and embrace inclusive pedagogies such as standards-based grading and inquiry-based learning. This position will offer you the freedom and stability to pursue your research and teaching interests, independently and in collaboration with other faculty and engaged students. Major/Essential Functions: Gustavus faculty teach, advise, conduct research, and serve the college and department. Currently, tenure-line Gustavus faculty have a 6-course equivalent teaching assignment. In their first year, the successful candidate will receive a reduced teaching assignment of five courses (i.e., a fully-compensated course release).

Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching Introduction to Computer Science 1, other CS offerings consistent with background, and contributions to general education. We strive to foster an environment where people can be themselves, build community, learn, and grow. • Improve your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus. • Advance your scholarship by working with undergraduate research assistants, joining a writing retreat, applying for an internal grant, receiving travel funds to present at conferences, receiving help applying for external grants, and making use of our research facilities. • Develop professional skills by participating in faculty meetings and committees, attending faculty development days, and taking advantage of the College’s membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).

Minimum Qualifications: • PhD in Computer Science or a related field; we will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by September 30, 2023 • Prior experience teaching in computer science either in a classroom, professional, or laboratory setting

Preferred Qualifications: • Effectiveness (or potential effectiveness) in teaching as demonstrated through course development, professional development, or experience • The ability to teach the Introduction to Computer Science course, where students learn to develop and implement algorithms • The potential to teach the social impact and/or applicability of computer science to other disciplines • Demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities • Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate student advising • Evidence of an active research trajectory in a field related to computer science • A willingness to foster and support undergraduate research • Evidence of engagement in leadership or service
