CalWest's client school in the Greater Los Angeles Area is seeking an experienced Middle School Mathematics Teacher & Department Chair to begin August 1, 2023.

Responsibilities:

Teach three math classes that will consist of sixth, seventh, and/or eighth grade math (honors and regular) Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning Main Department Chair Responsibilities: During professional development days, if requested by the administration, directs ongoing educational in-service for the department with presentations/workshops Present information about our math department to parents, board members, other colleagues as requested by administration Actively supports articulation with other educational institutions including the other Jewish Day Schools and High Schools. Acts as the school’s representative at conferences, meetings and acts as the department’s liaison with other educational groups and agencies. Provides for annual curriculum review and update within the department. Reviews major curriculum trends nationally, statewide, and locally with a view to revise existing curriculum when appropriate and recommended changes to the General Studies Principal.

Qualifications:

Degree (BA or MA) from a college or university in education with a mathematics or engineering endorsement or a degree (BS or MS) in mathematics or engineering with a valid teaching credential Minimum of 3 years previous Middle School Thorough mathematical expertise in middle school math curriculum including but not limited to: pre-algebra, algebra (specifically computational and problem-solving strategies), and advanced algebra topics Provide standards-based, structured project based learning opportunities that interconnect STEM subjects Experience in planning & implementing an engaging, integrated curriculum Pedagogical knowledge of differentiated instruction to offer varied paths to different levels of math achievement based on student skill level, learning style, and motivation among other factors Blend of traditional and innovative methodologies Technological proficiency and preferably experience using iPads Dedication to professional growth and development Excellent classroom management skills Willingness to co-teach classes as needed with another teacher Ability to build meaningful and collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
