Instructor

 The faculty of the Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for two full time, professional-track positions at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2023.  The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.

Candidates must have a minimum of a M.S. degree, Ph.D. preferred, in Mathematics or Mathematics Education and demonstrated excellence in teaching.

The successful candidate will teach 100 and 200 level courses, including first year calculus and precalculus courses. The expected teaching load is 4-4. However, course releases may be given based on additional service in the Department, College, and University.

 The Mathematics Department (http://www.math.sc.edu/), located in the heart of the historic campus, currently has 31 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 10 instructors, 46 graduate students, over 180 majors, and 40 minors. Faculty research interests include algebra, analysis, applied and computational mathematics, constructive approximation, discrete mathematics, geometry, mathematical biology, mathematical education, and number theory. The LeConte building, where the Department of Mathematics resides, has recently been renovated. We have state of the art Math Learning Center.
