Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking a mathematical scientist with expertise in computational science to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in applying numerical optimization or high performance computing to STEM areas. Successful candidates are expected to develop productive research programs, mentor and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to direct Ph.D. dissertations in computational science. Candidates with experience in industry and/or applied interdisciplinary research projects are encouraged to apply. Anticipated appointment date is fall 2024.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Mathematical Sciences, consisting of 27 tenure and tenure-track faculty, contributes to interdisciplinary programs across the university including the College of Science Computational Science Program. Notable faculty accomplishments of the productive faculty include the publication of high impact peer reviewed manuscripts and annual research expenditures of $1.5m. The faculty have significant expertise in the areas of algebra and combinatorics, fixed point theory, statistics, bioinformatics, computational science, topology, data science and applied mathematics. An exciting development for the Department is the recent approval of a new Data Science doctoral program that started in spring 2021. Lastly, UTEP consistently ranks in the top ten by Diverse Issues in Higher Education for Mathematics and Statistics degrees conferred to Hispanic undergraduate and master’s degree students. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, a strong record of research accomplishments and the capacity to secure extramural funding.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience in computational science is preferred.
