Position Description:    

Samford University’s Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to submit an application for the position of assistant professor of mathematics. The two available tenure-track faculty positions will begin August 2018. The faculty member will teach three courses each semester (12 credit hours) and be expected to teach courses across the entire undergraduate curriculum. Active research in line with the department’s guidelines for scholarly activity is required. Additional responsibilities include advising students, and providing departmental, college, university and professional service. The department, college and university are strong supporters of undergraduate research and faculty-directed student projects. 

Qualified candidates will hold an earned Ph.D. in pure or applied mathematics. A demonstrated record of effective teaching is preferred. Candidates with an area of research that complements existing areas of specialty in the department will be given higher consideration. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in undergraduate research and faculty-directed student projects, or with specific ideas for projects they might lead. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues is expected. Candidates must be willing to support the Christian mission of Samford University and Howard College. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

The department currently has nine full-time faculty members and approximately 70 majors and 20 minors split between mathematics and computer science.
