Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics at Rider University seeks a strongly motivated individual to serve as Chair beginning in the 2018-19 academic year. Primary responsibilities of the department chair are to provide discerning and perceptive leadership; to encourage excellence and innovation in teaching, research and service; to advance professional development of faculty and students; to promote productive relationships with all internal constituents including the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with particular emphasis the science departments and the School of Education and Human Services.

Rider University is a private university with primary campus located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Over 4,100 undergraduate and 950 graduate students are enrolled in 67 undergraduate programs and 35 graduate programs in business administration, education, liberal arts, sciences, fine and performing arts, counseling, and leadership. There are 248 full-time faculty supporting a student to faculty ratio of 12 to 1. U.S. News & World Report ranks Rider in the top tier of northern regional universities offering master’s degrees. Rider is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Qualifications Required: PhD in Mathematics; Current academic rank of tenured associate or full professor; An established record of research publications in mathematics or mathematics education; A record of teaching excellence; A commitment to lead the department well into the future; Desired: A record of academic leadership experience.

Department of Mathematics at Rider: The Department of Mathematics offers both a major and minor in mathematics and currently has four full time tenure-line faculty. The number of mathematics majors, many of whom double major in elementary or secondary education, has grown significantly over the last five years. The faculty are encouraged to direct independent studies and seminars with students.
