Position Description:    

SUMMARY: The Assistant Professor of Mathematics is responsible for instructing 12 semester hours of mathematics on all levels, maintaining an active program of scholarship, providing service as required, and engagement in professional development.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches courses equivalent to 12 semester hours per semester in accordance with relevant academic policies. Responsible for instructing mathematics on all levels. Will be expected to teach statistics courses (including experimental design) and a course in mathematical modeling. Provides service through committee work, academic advising, and other duties as assigned (e.g., curriculum development, outcomes assessment, recruitment, retention, program review, etc.). Participates in mathematic curriculum development in conformity with objectives of the mathematics program and accreditation standards. Maintains an active program of scholarship as evidence of professional accomplishment, including, but not limited to, seeking extramural funding opportunities. Responsible for supervising senior projects and encouraging student participation in professional activities. Meets deadlines set by the Registrar’s office for grading, including midterms and finals. Serves as an academic advisor for mathematic students and assists the mathematic program in recruitment and retention efforts. Engages in continued professional development. Provides feedback and grades to students on a timely basis. Participates in program, division and faculty meetings. Attends Fall Convocation, Honors Convocation, Common Dialog Day, and Commencement on Adrian campus. Participates in faculty and university activities in the weeks prior to and following the academic year. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the program coordinator, division chairperson or dean.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires a master’s degree in mathematics; Ph.D. preferred, and teaching excellence in a liberal arts setting. Strong background and experience in using technology in mathematical instruction.
