The ATI research/teaching post-doc positions are part of the NSF-funded Arizona Teacher Initiative, (EHR-0634532) (ATI). These Post-docs will be involved in the development of a proposed new master's degree for middle school teachers. They will work with experienced middle school teachers and gain first hand experience in the training and continued education of inservice mathematics teachers.

The Arizona Teacher Initiative is a partnership between the University of Arizona and The Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) to develop and implement a vertically integrated, nationally replicable advanced education program for practicing middle school mathematics teachers. The Initiative will provide instruction in both mathematics and pedagogy in varying proportions for master's degree candidates, participating high school teachers and these post-doctoral fellows. The focus of the project is middle school mathematics. It aim is to increase the mathematics knowledge of active teachers, improve the leadership and mentoring skills of the best teachers, and help the postdoctoral fellows understand the fields of pre-service and in-service teacher preparation.

Applicants must provide documentation of interest and accomplishments that show evidence or potential for benefiting from the mission and work of ATI. Applicants must have received a Ph.D. by the time of hire in either mathematics or mathematics education. This is a unique opportunity for individuals who want to develop an area of expertise in mathematics education.

Teaching load is up to nine units per semester across the full spectrum of lower and upper division courses, but specializing in those mathematics content courses associated with ATI. Fellows are encouraged to maintain and build an active research program, and to participate in all research and educational activities of the Department. Some summer teaching will be expected for additional compensation.
