The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications to fill a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Statistics. The appointment start date is August 20, 2018.

The department is seeking an outstanding candidate with a PhD in statistics, mathematics or a related area with research expertise in statistics. Minimum qualifications include (i) PhD in statistics, mathematics or related field by August 2018; (ii) teaching experience in statistics; and (iii) research specialization in statistics or related field. Preference will be given to applicants who: (i) demonstrate potential for high scholarly productivity, (ii) demonstrate strong teaching ability, and (iii) demonstrate potential for collaborative research. Applicants seeking appointment with tenure will also be expected to assume leadership roles mentoring PhD students and seeking external funding. Responsibilities will include teaching two courses per semester, taking active roles in the undergraduate, Masters and PhD programs, and pursuing external funding/ partnerships. A competitive compensation and research start-up package will be provided depending upon qualifications and experience.

The Statistics program of the department has a long history of preparing undergraduates for professional employment and further study. It participates actively in the Actuarial Science program in the department, which has recently been designated a “Center of Actuarial Excellence” by the Society of Actuaries. Many areas of potential collaboration exist within the Department, across the University and with the Medical College of Wisconsin in areas such as finance, biostatistics, data analytics and environmental data analysis.
