Research Associate ACAD103084 School of Mathematics £32,548 - £36,613 per annum. Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research
Associate position in Mathematics, tenable from 1 September 2018 or a date to
be agreed. The position is funded by the Leverhulme Advanced Grant “Geometry,
Combinatorics and Algebra of Sum-products”, which aims to develop and study the
above-mentioned aspects, connections, and implications arising in the context
of the sum-product phenomenon both over general fields, as well as specific to
reals. The research programme aims to address a wide range of discrete
questions, such as proving new arithmetic estimates and their applications to
multiplicative subgroups over finite fields, developing geometric incidence
theory, studying invariant sets arising in the context of geometric group
action on finite sets, as well as continuous-analytic variants of these
questions. You should have a PhD in Mathematics or equivalent, with
a suitable background in geometric/arithmetic/additive combinatorics, harmonic
analysis or theoretical computer science. Applicants with expertise and
willingness to explore the advanced algebraic geometry side of the problem are
especially welcome. The School of Mathematics is one of the leading centres
for research and teaching in mathematical sciences in the UK, and offers a
stimulating environment with first-rate facilities. The School is a supporter
of the LMS Good Practice Scheme aiming at advancing women's careers in
mathematics http://www.maths.bris.ac.uk/admin/life/women/ It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure their
referees send a letter of reference by email to maths-recruitment@bristol.ac.uk
by the deadline of 09 February 2018. Under exceptional circumstances, applications received
after this date may also be considered. The contract will be offered on an open-ended basis, with
funding currently secured for three years. For informal enquiries, please contact Misha Rudnev:
