The Division of Mathematics, Computing, and Statistics (MCS) at Simmons University, Boston MA, is seeking applicants for two positions:

One Non-Tenure Track faculty position (NTT, one year renewable contract)

One Tenure Track faculty position (TT)

In Statistics, Data Science or Mathematics, depending on the successful candidate’s experience and professional goals, to begin August 15, 2023 (start date negotiable).

MCS houses majors in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, and Data Science, as well as several other interdisciplinary majors. We seek an innovative educator with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, creative curriculum development, a passion for empowering students through teaching, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration inside and outside the University. As a mission-driven and inclusive institution, we invite applications from candidates who share our passion and commitment to empowering women, trans* and non-binary people to thrive in their careers.

Located in Boston’s historic Fenway area, Simmons has a strong tradition of empowering students and of challenging traditional gender roles and expanding opportunities for historically marginalized groups. Simmons University was one of the first higher education institutions to focus on preparing women to become leaders and has evolved to become a university offering a women-centered undergraduate program, with graduate programs open to all. MCS is a collegial and supportive community of teachers and scholars. Simmons faculty and staff are truly committed to our mission of preparing students to become champions of social justice and equitable leaders in their professions and their communities. This commitment and pride make for a dynamic workplace. Simmons University strives for inclusive excellence in all aspects of an individual’s community experience: One of our strategic goals is to become the most inclusive campus in New England. As a University committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we seek candidates with a demonstrated ability to work with and empower students across a broad range of social and personal identities and perspectives. We particularly encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups.

Responsibilities:

Both NTT/TT positions: Responsibilities include teaching a range of courses in statistics, data science and/or mathematics and actively participating in service within the Division and the University. Tenure track faculty will teach six courses each year and non-tenure track faculty will be responsible for seven courses each year. Service responsibilities might include but are not limited to: advising Division majors, supporting the growing Statistics and Data Science programs, contributing to online undergraduate degree programs, and being an active member of select Division and University committees.

In addition, Tenure Track candidates are expected to have an active research agenda. Tenure-stream positions at Simmons carry six “course reduction vouchers” available for use over the course of the tenure track. Interest in leading undergraduate student/faculty research is highly desirable.

Qualifications: We are open to individuals interested in and qualified for a 10-month faculty position at our Boston campus. Candidates for the Tenure Track position must have earned a PhD in Statistics, Data Science or Mathematics, or a related field (or expect to earn such a degree by Fall 2023). Highly qualified candidates with a Master’s degree in a related discipline may be considered for the non-tenure track position. All candidates will have demonstrated teaching experience or strong potential to excel at teaching; candidates for the tenure-track position will have a demonstrated capability to generate high-quality, high-impact scholarship.

Professional Development and Support: At Simmons, we are committed to the development of our faculty and to providing opportunities for faculty to engage in College and University leadership efforts. These opportunities may include participating in inter-faculty grant/research development, institutional leadership development opportunities, and mentoring/coaching opportunities.

Salary and Benefits: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Simmons University participates in TIAA/CREF and offers excellent benefits packages, including tuition reimbursement for dependents at Simmons and other institutions.

Instructions to Applicants: To apply, please submit a cover letter (including the title of the position for which you are applying), a CV, and a teaching statement. Candidates for the Tenure track position should also supply a research statement. Additional supporting materials that document excellence in teaching, such as course evaluations and syllabi of courses taught, are optional and welcomed.

Application review will begin immediately, and will end January 7th, 2023. Contact information for three professional references will be requested of selected applicants following initial review of applications.
