The post doc will be part of an interdisciplinary research project, specifically, the successful candidate will work with Drs. Thierry Chekouo and Xuewen Lu and Wastewater-Based Epidemiology (WBE) Program Leads; Kevin Frankowski (ACWA), Casey Hubert (Science) and Michael Parkins (Medicine) on the statistical analysis and modelling of WBE data and viral detection for SARS CoV 2 (and other WBE-targets including chemicals and genes). The candidate will also work on the development of Bayesian statistical/machine learning methods for the analysis of high-throughput molecular data and survival data (i.e., genome, metagenome, transcriptome, epigenome, and more). In addition to COVID-19 disease, other domains of applications may include cardiovascular diseases, neurodevelopment disorders and cancer diseases. The candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary research project that is seeking to use wastewater to track the epidemiology of COVID infection rates in Calgary, Alberta (https://www.ucalgary.ca/news/ucalgary-city-calgary-and-ahs-team-fight-against-covid-19), and work directly with researchers in the Faculties of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, and at the University’s Advancing Canadian Wastewater Assets (ACWA) facility. The successful applicant will join a productive transdisciplinary team with supporting research funding from CIHR, Alberta Health and NSERC. This post-doctoral opportunity is supported by both a large existing dataset (>1500 SARS-CoV-2 data points from Calgary wastewater samples taken in 2020 and 2021) and ongoing cross provincial sampling. The sample archive available will enable both prospective and retrospective study design and analyses. The post doc will work as part of a large team that includes several staff with PhDs, graduate students and undergraduate interns such that some supervision of junior colleagues will be expected. Postdoctoral fellows in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics are expected to teach up to two courses per year. Qualifications:
Review of applications will begin on December 1st and continue until the position is filled. The start date is negotiable but preferably as soon as possible. |
