Assistant or Associate Professor Position in Pure Mathematics Department of Mathematics and Statistics, College of Natural Sciences

Qualification Details: Minimum Qualifications The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. in any area of pure mathematics. Candidates nearing completion of the Ph.D. may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the degree must be met no later than August 17, 2022. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of excellence in university-level teaching, including the ability or willingness to teach upper-division courses, an active program of scholarly research and/or grant development, and a strong interest in working with undergraduates.

Preferred Qualifications: We prefer candidates with postdoctoral experience, an established research program, demonstrated success or potential for success in contributing to undergraduate research opportunities, and experience with curriculum development.

Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching (general education and major courses), scholarship (research and grants), and service (student advising; serving on department, college, and university committees). Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

The Department: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics consists of 20 full time faculty (the majority hired since 2013), 16 full time equivalent lecturers, and around 180 math majors. We offer 4 options in the bachelor’s degree: General Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Statistics. We place a high priority on quality teaching and engagement with students, both in and outside of the classroom, and we also require and value research and service. We have a highly successful history of supporting undergraduate research through mentoring and with external grants that have led to outstanding outcomes in student-authored publications and presentations of their work.
