Position Description:

The Department of Mathematics of Siena College, Loudonville, NY, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Applied Mathematics beginning in Fall 2018. The department seeks to enhance its current strength in pure mathematics through growth in applied fields.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in mathematical biology, scientific computing, operations research, control and systems theory, statistics, and data mining and analytics, especially to those candidates with cross-disciplinary research interests and experience that promise to enrich Siena’s vibrant undergraduate research culture.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or Applied Mathematics, and postdoctoral research and/or teaching experience is strongly preferred. A background screening will be required.

Siena College is a private liberal arts college serving approximately 3000 undergraduates and located in upstate New York---one hour's drive from the expansive Adirondack State Park and under three hours away from Montreal, Boston, and New York City. The School of Science boasts a high-performance computing cluster, a state-of-the-art instrumentation center, and is home to seven departments, including biology, computer science, physics and astronomy, and mathematics. A significant fraction of undergraduate students conduct research with faculty, in addition to their major courses and the writing-intensive humanities courses taken by all students. The mathematics department consists of 7 full time faculty members with 53 majors, and is heavily involved in building new interdisciplinary majors in data science, applied mathematics and engineering physics.

The teaching load is 18 contact hours per academic year, leaving substantial time for research and scholarship. The successful candidate will be required to maintain an active research program and the highest standards of excellence in teaching as well as to participate in service to the department and college.

Complete applications will include a cover letter (indicating if available for interview at the Joint Meetings), an AMS Standard Cover Sheet, CV, three letters of reference (one addressing the candidate’s teaching), plus teaching and research statements.

Submit only letters of reference through Mathjobs.org.  Submit other materials to http://siena.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=90958
