Position Description:

*** this position has been closed. ***

The KdV Institute for Mathematics of the University of Amsterdam is looking for two 2-year postdoc positions in Algebraic Geometry. The positions involve a small teaching load (max 10%, in English).

The positions are funded by Lenny Taelman’s ERC Consolidator grant “Zeta functions and Fourier-Mukai transforms”. The Algebraic Geometry group at the KdV Institute consists of Arno Kret, Diletta Martinelli, Mingmin Shen, Lenny Taelman, and their PhD students and postdocs. We run research seminars and study groups, and together with geometers of nearby universities we organise many national activities including national courses, the Intercity Seminars and the Belgian-Dutch Algebraic Geometry days.

What are you going to do?
As a postdoc you will conduct independent research in a subject broadly related to algebraic geometry, including derived and arithmetic geometry. You will interact with the PhD students and other postdocs in Taelman’s ERC project. The position comes with a mild teaching load (in English).

What do you have to offer?
The candidates are expected to hold a PhD in mathematics, and to have a strong background in algebraic, arithmetic and/or derived geometry.

The Faculty of Science has a student body of around 8,000, as well as 1,800 members of staff working in education, research or support services. Researchers and students at the Faculty of Science are fascinated by every aspect of how the world works, be it elementary particles, the birth of the universe or the functioning of the brain.

The Korteweg-de Vries Institute (KdVI) is the institute for scientific research in mathematics of the Faculty of Sciences. The KdV Institute offers a stimulating scientific environment in which research focuses mainly within the research programmes (1) Algebra, Geometry and Mathematical Physics, (2) Pure, Applied and Numerical Analysis, (3) Stochastics and (4) Discrete Mathematics and Quantum Information. It also provides the lecturers and instructors for the mathematics teaching within the Science faculty. KdVI collaborates a.o. with Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), VU University Amsterdam, Leiden University and Eindhoven University of Technology and is the coordinator of the Gravitation Programme NETWORKS, the National Network mathematical decision making (LNMB) and MasterMath.
