Lake Superior State University (LSSU) invites applications for a tenure track position in applied or computational mathematics. The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates may be considered at other ranks. Candidates in all areas of applied and computational mathematics and computer science are invited to apply. We seek an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and broadly trained faculty member with a demonstrated excellence, or strong promise, in undergraduate teaching. Duties typically include a minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibility per semester, continued scholarly activity, university service and assessment of student learning.

LSSU’s recent academic restructuring emphasizes innovation in new program development, greater collaboration among disciplines, more interdisciplinary initiatives, and more effective marketing. LSSU is experiencing a remarkable resurgence of interest with applications for admission up 105% (2,419 versus 1,218 last year), creating an intriguing opportunity to shape the academic future of an emerging institution.

Minimum qualifications: Masters Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate level course work in mathematics or computer science. Evidence of experience teaching at the undergraduate level.

Desired qualifications: ABD or Ph.D. in Mathematics or Computer Science or closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate level course work in mathematics or computer science. An ability and willingness to teach across disciplines in mathematics and computer science and collaborate with other areas such as biology, criminal justice, engineering, business or chemistry on interdisciplinary curriculum development.
