The successful candidate is expected to work as an independent principal investigator, promoting and leading research activities to complement the current expertise of the present SISSA faculty members, as well as to attract external funds, take an active part in the SISSA PhD teaching programme, and supervise graduate students (selected on a competitive basis and funded by fellowships provided by SISSA).

SISSA offers excellent working conditions, including a start-up grant and reduced teaching load in the first year.

Expressions of interest should be sent in English and via Math Jobs Online only.
They should include:
1. At least three reference letters.
2. Curriculum Vitae.
3. Description of current research interests.
4. A list of selected top eight publications and the full publication list.

SISSA is a leading research and training institution located in Trieste, Italy. Teaching is in English and only at master and graduate level. The campus is in a green area on the hills close to Trieste and is efficiently connected to the city by public transport. SISSA offers to its community first-rate research facilities (e.g. High Performance Computing facilities) and services, including an on-site kindergarten for children from 13 months up to 3 years of age. (For older children, public schooling in Italy starts from age 3 and is essentially free.)

SISSA also has strong connections with the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), and the University of Trieste (UNITS), and is a founding member of the Institute of Geometry and Physics (IGAP).

Substantial tax reduction on the salary may apply for six or more years, according to the Italian rules for appointments from abroad, if in possession of specific requirements.
