We are seeking excellent candidates from any area of mathematics, with a Ph.D. degree awarded within the last 8 years, to nominate for a most prestigious research fellowship (Wallenberg Academy Fellows). The fellowship entails a permanent post and establishment as a research group leader at the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, Umeå University (Sweden). It comes with a substantial recruitment package, including resources to appoint at least three junior group members (postdocs and Ph.D.-students) and discretionary research funds for the first five years. Umeå offers excellent working and living conditions. The working environment is international and very family-friendly, exemplified by a generous allotment of 480 days of paid parental leave for each child. Umeå is a young city located right next to a large river. It is surrounded by forests and lakes and lies close to the sea. The city offers excellent opportunities for both outdoor and indoor activities. The department has about 100 employees and conducts research in computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, mathematical modeling and analysis, and mathematical statistics. If you find this opportunity interesting, contact Associate Professor Karl Larsson (karl.larsson@umu.se) for further information. Selected candidates would work with the department to prepare and submit an application to the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, which is expected to fund the position. |
