The Department of Mathematics at Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for the position of an Assistant Professorship (W2, Tenure Track) for Mathematics - Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing Code No. 434 starting as soon as possible. Applicants should have an outstanding PhD and pertinent publications in international journals. They should work in a modern field of numerical analysis and scientific computing related to model reduction or numerical homogenization as to supplement the existing research areas of the working group Numerical Analysis of the Department. We welcome experience with the acquisition of third party funding. It is expected that applicants cooperate with the SFB/TRR154 "Mathematical Modeling, Simulation and Optimization using the Example of Gas Networks" funded by German Science Foundation DFG. Potential for cooperation with other research groups within the Department of Mathematics or at TU Darmstadt or within the strategic alliance of Rhein-Main Universities (RMU) is beneficial. The department places emphasis on the ability to teach students in mathematics and other degree schemes. The department expects applicants to be able to teach in German within three years after appointment; prior to that, English can be the language of instruction. The University offers German courses to non-native speakers of German. Moreover, applicants are expected to participate in academic self-governance. The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to § 64 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz). Accordingly, the maximum period of scientific activities after the PhD degree should not exceed four years. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their PhD at a university other than TU Darmstadt, or have been active at a University other than TU Darmstadt for at least two years after their PhD. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 according to Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. The position is initially limited to six years. The position comes with the option of a tenured professorship after a successfully completed tenure process. The tenure process, which can be initiated one and a half years before the end of the Assistant Professorship, evaluates the achievements in research and teaching. For further information please see the tenure guidelines of TU Darmstadt. Qualified applicants please submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, research and teaching records under the given reference number to the following address: Dekan Fachbereich Mathematik, Schlossgartenstr. 7, 64289 Darmstadt, Germany, bewerbung[at]mathematik.tu-darmstadt.de (please include a single .pdf-file of at most 5 MB).
