General Information: The School of Science, Technology, Accessibility, Mathematics and Public Health (STAMP) invites applications for non-tenure, pre-tenure or tenure-track faculty positions in the area of mathematics starting August, 2022. Our school offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics and B.S. degrees in Information Technology and Public Health as well as service courses for other majors and the general education curriculum.

Candidates must be committed to innovative teaching of undergraduate majors-level and service courses for a liberal arts curriculum in a predominantly visual environment. Candidates must demonstrate potential for competency in teaching, scholarship/research and service. Fluency in American Sign Language at time of appointment is highly desirable, but not required. Applicants who are not fluent must be willing to learn. Rank and salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position is contingent on funding.

Qualifications: Candidates for non-tenure track positions must have earned a Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, applied statistics, data science, applied mathematics, physics, or a closely related field. Candidates for pre-tenure track and tenure-track positions must possess or be pursuing a doctorate in mathematics, statistics, applied statistics, data science, applied mathematics, physics or a closely related field.

Responsibilities: The Mathematics Program in STAMP offers B.S. and B.A. degrees in mathematics. STAMP also offers a data science minor to complement any major at the university. The successful candidates’ primary responsibility, but not limited to, will be teaching developmental math, general education mathematics courses and/or undergraduate upper-level mathematics courses to students from STAMP and from other programs. Faculty in STAMP often teach across programs due to the interdisciplinary nature of the school.

The successful candidates will also advise students in the mathematics major, serve on dissertation committees for students in other program/departments, and work collaboratively with faculty members in various graduate and undergraduate programs. Other responsibilities include engagement in scholarship and/or research in the field or in mathematics education; participation in school and university faculty activities; preparation of proposals and applications to external sources for funding and accreditation purposes.

A successful non-tenure track candidate would not be expected to initiate a research program, but would have additional teaching load, and must contribute either to research or service. A successful pre-tenure track candidate must be enrolled in a PhD program and will be expected to initiate a research project per the requirements of that program. A successful tenure track candidate would also be expected to initiate and maintain a research program, and contribute to service.

Gallaudet University is a visually-centered, bilingual (American Sign Language and written English) environment in the heart of Washington, D.C. With classes of typically fewer than 20 students each, students and faculty both enjoy a dynamic interactions and opportunities for active and collaborative learning.
