Université Côte d’Azur FULL PROFESSOR POSITION IN HPC AT THE MATH DEPARTMENT

RESEARCH PROFILE Université Côte d'Azur is seeking a strong academic leader with a clear strategic vision, who will have an important role and large freedom in developing the area of HPC, and in particular the contribution of mathematics to computing, at the J. A. Dieudonné laboratory, its mathematics research unit. The position appears in sections 26/25 of the National Council of Universities.

The recruited person will be responsible for the development and animation of this theme, the strengthening of interactions with other disciplines (computer science, astrophysics, chemistry, etc.), and to contribute to the influence of the site on the national and international scenes. He will benefit from the Azzura computing infrastructure (https://calculs.univ-cotedazur.fr/?page_id=444&lang=fr) in which he will be a major player. He will contribute to the development of supercomputing for the projects of the Maison de la Simulation et des Interactions (https://msi.univ-cotedazur.fr/), particularly for companies. He will reinforce the interactions between the mathematics laboratory and other research units of Université Côte d'Azur (for example GeoAzur, Observatory of the Côte d'Azur, MinesParisTech, I3S, Inphyni, Inria), on the computational topics. Finally, according to his scientific orientation, he may also be associated to the 3IA Côte d'Azur Institute (https://3ia.univ-cotedazur.eu/). The profile sought is that of an expert in the design, analysis and implementation of algorithms for solving very high-dimensional linear systems, in the design, analysis and implementation of algorithms for parallel and distributed computing, their implementation on multi-core or hybrid architectures (CPU-GPU) or very high-dimensional optimization and its applications, statistical learning, scientific visualization or high-performance scientific computing for solving systems of partial differential equations and more generally resulting from the modeling of complex systems. Proven experience of multidisciplinary approaches is a strong asset for the application; fruitful interactions are expected on the themes explored in the laboratory or on site, in particular statistics, optimization, machine learning, signal processing, computational chemistry, fluid and structural mechanics, turbulence, computational geometry, mesh generation and optimal transport, flows in porous media, electromagnetism, plasmonics, combustion, neurosciences, plasma physics, data assimilation, imaging…

TEACHING The regular teaching load is about 190 hr/yr. There are opportunities for a reduction of the teaching duties. The recruited colleague may be called to teach at any level of the 5 years of the university training. He is expected to be committed in the development and promotion of training in computing (numerical analysis, numerical linear algebra, optimization, signal processing, etc.), and in training in modern techniques and architectures of scientific computing in connection with other disciplines. Applicants who do not speak French may be granted a period of adaptation, but they must be able to teach in French at the end of the 3rd year following their appointment.

INFORMATION AND APPLICATION The hiring process is managed through the national plateform GALAXIE : https://www.galaxie.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/ensup/cand_recrutement_enseignants_chercheurs.htm Interviews will take place in May, 2023. Université Côte d’Azur is an Equal Opportunity employer. You will work in a lively, and inspiring working environment with enthusiastic colleagues in an internationally open organization. The J. A. Dieudonné laboratory offers a unique working environment in a beautiful campus. The French Riviera is a very desirable place to live, with direct access to the sea and mountains within one-hour drive from the city. Further information can be obtained from the math department (phm@univ-cotedazur.fr), the research unit (yves.dangelo@univ-cotedazur.fr) or their scientific board (goudon@univ-cotedazur.fr)
