The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montana Tech is pleased to announce an opening for an Assistant Professor in the field of Statistics with Data Science experience and/or research interests. Montana Technological University, a regionally accredited college in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, primarily offers degrees in the sciences and engineering. The Mathematical Sciences Department offers undergraduate majors in Mathematics (with options in applied mathematics and statistics) and Data Science. The normal teaching load is 9 credits per semester. The primary duties of the position are to teach courses in data science and statistics. Additional responsibilities could include, but are not limited to, advising Data Science and statistics majors, overseeing student research projects, and participating in curriculum redesign. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • PhD in Statistics awarded by August 2023 • Experience and/or expertise with data visualization, simulation, and/or statistical methods that support our current course offerings in Data Science • Ability to teach Statistical Learning and Data Science I and II, Bayesian Statistical Inference REQUIRED SKILLS: • Effective oral and written communication skills • Ability to teach courses using Python and R PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Previous teaching experience in college level mathematics, statistics, and/or Data Science • Evidence of effective teaching • Demonstrated research expertise in data science areas such as: machine/deep learning, big data mining and analytics, visualizing and communication data, data driven modeling and prediction, rich media data processing, database systems for analytics, quantitative social science, statistical learning To apply, please submit the following items: • Cover letter which specifically addresses the above-mentioned qualifications • One-page teaching statement • Statement of current research interests • List of courses taught in the past three years • Curriculum Vitae • Copies of graduate transcripts, unofficial transcripts are acceptable • Contact information for three professional references • Authorization for Criminal Background Investigation Applications received by December 1st, 2022 will be guaranteed full review and consideration.
