Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Otterbein University is seeking applicants for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics. We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and research, as well as to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, who will contribute to the department's efforts to enhance diversity and provide an inclusive learning environment for all.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching load is 4 - 3. Candidate will provide high quality instruction while pursuing an active research agenda. Beyond successful teaching, the successful candidate will have departmental and university service responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Mathematics by the time of appointment is required. Documented evidence of quality teaching, usually through student evaluations and/or peer review, is also required. Candidates with expertise in all areas of mathematics will be considered.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION


WHEN: This appointment begins in August 2025.

COMPENSATION: For the rank Assistant Professor - $61,000 (plus University benefits).

DEPARTMENT: The mathematics program at Otterbein is unique in that mathematics majors begin, in their first semester, a study of advanced calculus and abstract algebra, while simultaneously studying computational calculus. Students pursue a rigorous course of study, while also enjoying the quality instruction and individualized attention that is a hallmark of our university. The department offers undergraduate degrees in mathematics, mathematics with teaching licensure, and actuarial science. There is a university-wide mathematics requirement for graduation and, for this reason, half of the teaching schedules serve this need.
