Department: Zaven and Sonia Akian College of Science and Engineering (CSE) Contract type: Full-time Job location: Yerevan, the capital of the Republic of Armenia

Position Overview: The Akian College of Science and Engineering’s BS in Computer Science, BS in Data Science Programs, and MS in Computer and Information Science (https://cse.aua.am/) invite applications for a full-time faculty position in Machine Learning at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in July 2026. Faculty members at AUA are expected to teach three courses per semester, engage in program development and university service, and pursue an active research agenda. We seek a dedicated individual who will contribute to our vibrant academic community through teaching, mentoring, and innovative research. This position provides an opportunity to engage with students and collaborate with local and global scholars to advance knowledge in these critical fields.

Responsibilities:

1)Teach courses related to artificial intelligence and machine learning, 2)Contribute to curricular and programmatic developments, 3)Engage actively in research that contributes to the fields of Artificial Intelligence, and machine learning, and publish findings in high impact journals, 4)Mentor students in their academic and research pursuits, including capstone project supervision and independent studies, 5)Participate in program, college, and university service activities, 6)Perform other duties assigned by the Program Chair(s) and/or Dean.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a PhD in computer science, or a closely related discipline. Applicants at the assistant professor level should have some teaching experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications. We seek candidates capable of teaching and research within the area of machine learning, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, and computer vision. We also welcome applicants whose work spans other AI areas, such as generative AI, NLP, online learning, or related fields.

Requirements for this position include:

1)PhD degree in computer science or related area, 2)Documented experience in research and teaching within the area of machine learning, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, and computer vision, 3)Documented ability to do research in other areas of artificial intelligence, such as generative AI, NLP, online learning, or related fields, 4)Documented ability to teach courses such as Principles of Programming Languages, Programming Techniques, or Data Structures and Algorithms, 5)Documented experience in teaching in English, 6)Documented experience in supervision, including thesis supervision, 7)Documented experience in collaboration with companies and/or other organizations in research and education, 8)Documented experience in applying for research funding, and involvement in Horizon Europe or the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded projects.

Compensation:

Compensation is commensurate with the university-wide pay scale and will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
