Position Description
Full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position
in the area of Dynamical Systems and Ergodic Theory.
The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso is a traditional Chilean university located in the historic city of Valparaíso. It has a vibrant community of approximately 1.500 academics and 20.000 students and is committed to both high-quality research and service to society through teaching, outreach, and financial support for students. The Mathematics Institute offers undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. Additionally, there is a recent Professional Master's program in Computer Simulation, and undergraduate and graduate programs in Mathematics Education.
We are looking to fill a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Dynamical Systems and Ergodic Theory.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or related fields, strong research potential and commitment to teaching. We expect that the candidates have at least 1 year of experience in university-level teaching, together with good teaching references. The candidate should have the ability to obtain grants with national and/or international funding, and the availability to participate in the academic activities of our Mathematics Institute. The participation in international research networks and in outreach activities are highly valued.
In addition to supporting the development of researchers, PUCV funds internal research projects (as a way of promoting applications to external funds) and offers reduced teaching duties for active researchers. The teaching load is two course per semester, and some administrative/outreach activities are expected. The professor should be able to teach lessons in Spanish during the second year of the contract. The University offers Spanish courses if necessary.
The contract will be renewable for up to four years. After two years, the professor can initiate the academic tenure process.
The deadline for applications is June 15, 2026. The applicants must submit their applications using https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs. Pre‐selected applicants will be interviewed, in person or online, by the selection committee and a Human Resources expert. The selected candidate is expected to assume the position during the beginning of the second semester of 2026; a later date is posible, however the appointment must start no later than March 2027.
