Position Description

About the College
Founded in 1867, Morehouse College is a historically Black liberal arts college dedicated to developing men with disciplined minds who will lead lives of leadership and service. Morehouse is one of just 33 U.S. academic institutions nationwide that earned both Research College & University (RCU) and Opportunity College & University (OCU) designations in the new 2025 Carnegie Classifications.

About the Mathematics Department
The department currently has 11 full-time faculty with research interests across both pure and applied areas of mathematics. We reach students where they are and provide courses and educational experiences that facilitate access to and success in mathematics (and other STEM) graduate programs and related careers.

Position Summary
Morehouse College welcomes applications for tenure-track positions in the Department of Mathematics beginning Fall 2026. Applicants who can demonstrate strong teaching and research skills and the willingness to advise and develop undergraduate students are sought. The ideal candidate should have a research agenda that includes the potential to engage undergraduates in research and experiences that develop research readiness, as well as a commitment to effective teaching in a range of undergraduate courses (freshmen through senior year). The teaching load is 3 courses each semester. All teaching is expected to be in person. Our general education courses empower students to integrate knowledge and skills from their academic and co-curricular experiences. We want students to become active participants in their learning and expect them to demonstrate breadth of learning and critical intellectual skills. We see general education as a starting point for life-long work that students continue as they pursue their major, graduate from Morehouse, and go out into the world. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the College’s general education mission and curriculum.

Required Qualifications
Applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics or closely related discipline and a strong interest in teaching. Research interests in a wide range of mathematical areas will be considered. Morehouse realizes its mission by emphasizing the intellectual and character development of Black men. Candidates who apply are asked to share their interests and/or any particular experience in teaching Black men.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience
We are particularly interested in individuals who have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate liberal arts teaching, who can incorporate undergraduates in their research, and who are interested in mentoring students with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a range of courses; 3 courses each semester
  • Maintain an active research program
