The Department of Mathematics at Wayne State University invites applications for one (1) postdoctoral research position beginning at any time between now and November 1, 2022. This position has no teaching requirements.

The postdoctoral research will work with Professors Luca Candelori, Vladimir Chernyak and John Klein to develop mathematical methods studying quantum entanglement, with applications to chemical physics and quantum information theory. We envisage these methods to include, but not limited to:

geometric invariant theory algebraic geometry algebraic topology and mathematical physics

The position is partially funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, Basic Energy Sciences, Award Number DE-SC-002213. This grant has been awarded in partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, University of California, Irvine and University of California, San Diego.

The position carries a competitive salary and benefits, and offers interdisciplinary research and training opportunities in mathematics and physics. Teaching is not required.

Applicants should have a PhD in mathematics or related discipline, with a strong background in at least one of the above mathematical fields. Background in theoretical physics is a plus, but it is not required. Some travel for conferences and collaborative research is expected. The applicant should possess a strong motivation to publish in both mathematics and physics journals.

The position is for a total of two (2 Years). The second year of funding is contingent upon the progress report submitted at the end of year one.
