The Arithmetic Geometry Lab in the Department of Mathematics at POSTECH invites applications for postdoctoral positions supported by the Basic Research Laboratory program of the National Research Foundation of Korea.

Research Areas - Arithmetic geometry, broadly construed, or areas closely related to the research interests of Sungmun Cho (PI), Valentin Buciumas, Kyoung-Seog Lee, and Qirui Li Research Environment and Responsibilities - Research-focused position: independent and collaborative research, seminars, workshops, invited lectures, and international research activities of the Arithmetic Geometry Lab - Research travel and related expenses may be supported within the available budget. - International applicants are welcome; Korean language proficiency is not required, and research activities can be conducted in English.

Terms - Starting date: September 1, 2026, or a mutually agreed date - Initial appointment: one year - Renewal: renewable in one-year increments, subject to review and availability of funding, up to June 30, 2029 under the current grant - Salary: at least KRW 45,000,000 per year, commensurate with experience and research accomplishments, plus statutory social insurance and pension contributions

Teaching - There is no teaching duty. - If departmental needs arise and the postdoctoral fellow wishes to teach, the fellow may teach at most one course per semester. Separate teaching compensation will be paid; the amount follows departmental regulations.

If an applicant currently serving as Technical Research Personnel wishes, after receiving a Ph.D., to complete the remaining mandatory service period through research related to the Arithmetic Geometry Lab, the applicant may be appointed as Technical Research Personnel affiliated with the Basic Science Research Institute (BSRI), POSTECH, subject to applicable laws and regulations, approval by the Military Manpower Administration, and completion of relevant POSTECH administrative procedures, including any required assignment or transfer procedures. In this case, the appointee will be registered as a participating researcher of the Arithmetic Geometry Lab. The workplace, starting date, initial appointment period, renewal terms, salary, statutory social insurance, pension contributions, and other benefits will follow the same standards as the terms stated above and will be funded by the BRL grant.
