The Singularity theory and Algebraic geometry group (STAG) is offering a postdoctoral position for 2 years. STAG pursues research on singularities in the broadest sense, using a multitude of techniques of algebra, geometry, and topology. The applicant is expected to work with Ilya Smirnov on problems of algebro-geometric nature. In addition, our postdocs are encouraged to maintain their own research program and/or collaborate with our PhD students. A potential fellow is expected to have background in commutative algebra or algebraic geometry. Our main selection criterion will be research excellence, but we will take into consideration if the applicant’s background or interests overlap with directions pursued in BCAM. This position is funded by Smirnov’s grant and has no teaching duties. Travel funds will be provided. BCAM is located in Bilbao, a vibrant medium-sized city known for its nature, food, and overall quality of life. The official language of BCAM is English and BCAM offers free Basque and Spanish classes. Candidates must have: - Expertise in algebraic geometry and/or commutative algebra. - PhD degree in Mathematics completed before the contract starts. - Good interpersonal and communication skills. - A proven track record in Mathematics. - Ability to work independently and as a part of a collaborative research team. - Fluency in spoken and written English. In the selection procedure we will appreciate: - Interest in the study of singularities or the interplay of singularities with algebra, geometry, or topology. - Connections or interest in the topics pursued in STAG. - Willingness to contribute to the research life of STAG: participate in and organize study groups, research seminars, invited lectures, and other activities. Salary: The gross annual salary of the Fellowship will be 29.120€ - 35.360€ according to experience. It will then be on your own responsibility to make your yearly income declaration at the Bizkaia Treasury Agency. Additionally, we offer a moving allowance up to 2.000€. Should the researcher have a family at the time of recruitment: 1. 2.000€ gross in a single payment will be offered (you must be married-official register or with children and the certificate to prove it must be sent). 2. 1.200€ gross per year/per child (up to 2 children) will be offered (the certificate to prove it must be sent).
