The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Science at Utah State University (USU) offers a Lecturer position with a focus in beginning algebra, intermediate algebra, and college algebra. The department has outreach programs within the USU Regional Campus system. As part of USU's mission to make its academic programs accessible throughout the state, this position will be physically located at the USU Salt Lake Center in Salt Lake City, Utah and will be affiliated with the USU Tooele Campus. POSITION SUMMARY: The Lecturer in Mathematics is a 12-month (non-tenure track) position, with 90% teaching and advising and 10% service. Teaching will be primarily through USU's Interactive Video Broadcast system and online. The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is committed to delivering advanced quantitative and analytic skills for professionals in education, industry, and knowledge discovery through classroom instruction, and through practical and research experiences. The department is one of the largest departments in the College of Science and recently one of its members was named Utah's 2011 Carnegie Professor of the year. RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach with excellence undergraduate courses, emphasizing lower division Mathematics courses to support programs delivered in cooperation with two private colleges in Utah. In addition to teaching three courses per semester, the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate a mathematics tutoring lab. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1) an appropriate graduate degree from an accredited university; (2) ability to teach with excellence mathematics courses at the undergraduate level; (3) ability to develop a math tutoring lab for students; (4), experience teaching via distance education; (5) ability to work productively and cooperatively with colleagues; and (7) excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
