Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Mathematics
Position Description
Tenure-Track
Faculty Positions in Mathematics
The Mathematics Department at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant
Professor level, starting in the Fall of 2026. Successful candidates will be
able to support our second-major program in data science, for which the
department shares responsibility with our Computer Science and Software
Engineering Department. Rose-Hulman’s mission is “to provide students with the
world’s best undergraduate science, engineering, and mathematics education in
an environment of individual attention and support.” If this resonates with
you, then we think you’ll love what we have to offer.
We seek inspiring educators as a tenure-track Assistant Professor or
recurring appointment-track Assistant Professor of Practice who will not only
strengthen our degree program in data science, but could also support our
programs in mathematics, biomathematics, computational science, or our minor in
statistics. We will consider candidates with expertise in any area of the
mathematical sciences, but experience that supports our data science curriculum
– such as in areas of machine learning and data mining - is required.
Requirements for the tenure-track professor include a doctorate in
Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field by
start of employment; Professor of Practice requirements include a master’s
degree in the mathematical sciences plus extensive experience in data science.
Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to excellence in
undergraduate teaching. Experience teaching undergraduate courses in the
mathematical sciences with full responsibility is strongly preferred. Candidates
who can broaden and enrich the educational experiences of our students and
department through impactful research, innovative teaching and meaningful
outreach that align with our programs, goals, and values are also
preferred.
Essential job functions include classroom teaching, curriculum
development and continuous improvement, and participation in departmental
activities. Every member of the department teaches both service courses
(calculus, differential equations, statistics, etc) as well as advanced
courses, primarily within their area of specialty. The department and institute
place a high value on supporting all our students; candidates who are excited
to enhance student engagement and community are especially encouraged to apply.
Individuals who interact well with both students and faculty within our
science, engineering and computer science programs are also encouraged to
apply.
Rose-Hulman is an institute of technology with approximately 2100
undergraduate engineering, science and mathematics students, with most of the
undergraduate students in the engineering disciplines. Every undergraduate
student on campus is required to earn credit in at least five mathematics
courses, consisting of calculus, differential equations and either statistics
or probability. In support of our mission, our class sizes are small. As a
result, our mathematics faculty is large (over 25) and we are able to offer a
wide range of upper-level elective courses. More information regarding our
department can be found at http://www.rose-hulman.edu/math.
Review of applications will begin on November 18, 2025 and will continue
until the position(s) are filled. All completed applications received by
November 18 will be given full consideration. To receive full consideration for
this position, applicants are required to:
- Submit their complete
application packet with all required materials, including at least three
(3) letters of recommendation via MathJobs.org
AND
- Apply through the
Institute's Faculty Employment
Opportunities website to
provide Compliance Question responses and create an applicant/user profile
for application status updates and communications.
Documents are only submitted through MathJobs.org. Applicants must
submit the following items:
- Cover letter
- Curriculum vitae
- Statement on teaching
philosophy and practices that demonstrates you share our passion for
teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
- Statement on professional
development/research goals. Note that the Mathematics Department broadly
defines professional development as “growth in a faculty member’s
understanding of mathematics, its application, or growth in pedagogical
skills.”
- Graduate transcripts
(official or unofficial)
- At least three (3)
letters of recommendation, with at least one specifically addressing the
applicant's teaching ability and experience.
To be considered, these documents must be submitted via MathJobs.org and in
addition an application must be submitted on Rose-Hulman’s Faculty Employment
Opportunities website as noted above. Failure to complete both application
procedure steps will result in an incomplete application and will not be
considered for candidacy.
