The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Hunter College of the City University of New York invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Statistics beginning in the fall 2018 semester. The college is located in Manhattan’s Upper East Side and is the largest of 20 colleges in the City University of New York with 23,000 students.

The successful candidate is expected to teach students from diverse backgrounds in both undergraduate and graduate level statistics, as well as substantive courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. The Department has over 240 undergraduate majors with well-established and rapidly growing BA and MA programs in statistics, applied statistics, and financial mathematics with 60 BA students and 40 MA students. Required: Ph.D. in Statistics in any area within statistical science. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

The successful candidate is expected to initiate an externally funded vigorous research program and, to the extent possible, involve graduate and undergraduate students in their research.

The preferred qualifications for the Assistant Professor position include post-doctoral fellowship experience and strong evidence of an emerging track record of high quality scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications in Statistics and associated fields.
