The Warwick Mathematics Institute invites applications for the post of Warwick Zeeman Lecturer (WZL), to start in September 2026. We have two positions available, open to all areas of pure and applied mathematics.

WZLs are temporary appointments for a fixed term of three years. They offer the opportunity to join an excellent mathematics department, with plenty of time to pursue independent research while gaining the experience in lecturing and administration that will strengthen any future application for a permanent academic position.

About You All applicants should hold a PhD and have already demonstrated excellence in research and an ability to teach effectively.

We aim to appoint people to these two posts who can make a strong contribution to both our research and our teaching, and who will make the most of the opportunities provided by our lively and vibrant departmental culture.

In the past, many WZLs have extended the term of their appointment by combining this post with a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship and this gives a good indication of the kind of career stage and level of independence we expect for this position.

For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.

About the Department The Warwick Mathematics Institute is internationally recognised for its research and our best undergraduates are a match for those at any other UK university. We run a wide range of weekly seminar series, and many workshops and conferences, for which our Mathematics Research Centre provides organisational support.

A list of our staff and their research interests can be found at https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/maths/research/researchers and you can see our undergraduate module pages at https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/maths/currentstudents/ughandbook

The department encourages the career advancement and promotion of all its staff. All Zeeman Lecturers have a mentor and a more formal, supportive, annual review of their progress.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment, and we actively encourage applications from groups that are under-represented in UK mathematics. We are working hard towards improving our gender balance: we currently hold a Bronze Athena Swan award and our energetic Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion committee plays a significant role in shaping departmental policy.

We are an internationally diverse department. For those eligible, the University offers relocation and Immigration Support Scheme packages to assist with costs of relocating and any associated visa applications and HIS (health) surcharge fees.

About the University The University of Warwick celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Since our founding in 1965, we have become a world-leading university with the highest academic standards. We are part of the UK's Russell Group of research-intensive universities, and attract excellent students from both home and overseas.

You'll be joining a diverse and globally connected community committed to excellence in both research and teaching. We have a robust and transparent promotions system, and will offer you support in following your ambitions as long as you bring the energy and determination to succeed.

How to Apply CLOSING DATE: Sunday 19th October 2025 at 23:55 (BST)

To apply, please click ‘Apply’ below and submit an application form by the closing date.

Please plan for any potential delays as you will not be able to submit an application form past this deadline (even if you opened the form at, say, 23:30).

Applications should include a covering letter and a full CV, which should contain a summary of your teaching experience and a full list of your publications. We value and respect diverse gender identities and expressions, and encourage you to share your preferred personal pronouns (e.g. he/him, she/her, they/them) with us in this letter too.

You should arrange for your three referees to send their letters of recommendation directly to mathematicsPA@warwick.ac.uk (quoting the post reference number in the subject line of their email) before the closing date. These letters form an important part of our shortlisting process; please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that these referees have provided their letters to us by the deadline.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the department to give a talk on their research on Monday 26th January 2026, followed by a formal interview on Tuesday 27th January 2026. These dates have already been fixed to ensure the availability of the Chair of Faculty and cannot be changed.
