Position Description
Central Connecticut State University invites applications to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences as an Assistant Professor or Instructor. This is a tenure-track faculty position with a course load of 12 credits per semester, and an expectation of scholarship and service to the university and the profession. The position is full time beginning August 2025.If selected, you will become part of a multi-faceted Department whose nearly 30 full-time faculty members have a broad range of expertise in theoretical and applied mathematics, mathematics education, actuarial science, statistics, data science, and developmental mathematics. Our mission is to prepare STEM majors for teaching, business, industry, and research, and to provide service to other majors due to the critical importance of mathematics in the university’s general education requirements. Faculty have numerous opportunities to engage with students outside the classroom through participation in clubs, colloquia, math competitions, research presentations, and other activities.
We have a well-established program in developmental mathematics that aims to prepare students for college-level courses. The program includes a mathematics foundations course, MATH 099, and two algebra courses, MATH 102, and MATH 103. We are seeking a dynamic faculty member with strong mathematics background and teaching experience to teach and share coordination of developmental mathematics courses.
The candidate must have at least the level of a master’s degree in mathematics, preferably a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a mathematical related field, a record of peer reviewed publications, and at least three years of teaching college-level mathematics at a multicultural institution of higher education. The candidate must also share the vision of our program based on algebra, demonstrate good teaching skills in introductory level math courses, and have good communication skills to work with our team of instructors.
Candidates who satisfy the required qualifications but do not have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. will be considered for an instructor position. Candidates who satisfy the required qualifications and have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. will be considered for an assistant professor position.
Required qualifications:
(1) Master’s degree in mathematics or a related field with mathematics course work commensurate with the Mathematics M.A. – General at CCSU.
(2) A record of peer reviewed publications in a mathematical related field (mathematics education, mathematics, statistics, or physical sciences.)
(3) At least three years of teaching college-level mathematics, including at least one year of teaching algebra-based courses below the level of calculus, at a multicultural institution of higher education.
Preferred qualifications:
(1) Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a mathematical related field (mathematics education, mathematics, statistics, or physical sciences.)
(2) Course coordinator experience, including curriculum development.
(3) Statistical skills to conduct empirical research.
(4) A record of successful grant applications.
