The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position at any rank beginning in the Fall semester of 2011. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in mathematics education or in the mathematical or statistical sciences with a research emphasis in mathematics education by August 8, 2011. Candidates at the assistant professor level must have demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching at all levels. Candidates at the tenured associate professor or full professor level must have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching at all levels, must have experience advising graduate students, and should have a successful record of external funding. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research and publish in an area of mathematics education, provide quality teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, attract significant research funding, and participate in on-campus interdisciplinary activities and appropriate professional service.
The Tempe campus of Arizona State University has approximately 57,000 students. It is located in the rapidly growing metropolitan Phoenix area, which provides a wide variety of recreational and cultural opportunities. The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences currently has 57 full time faculty members and over 90 supported graduate students. Current research strengths in mathematics education include cognition on student learning of key ideas in undergraduate and secondary mathematics, learning mathematics in online environments, and mathematical knowledge for teaching secondary and first year university mathematics, Excellent computing resources are available, including individual faculty workstations as well as access to the University's central computing facilities and the High Performance Computing Initiative.
The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences has a strongly interdisciplinary oriented research profile that includes numerous collaborations inside and outside the university, such as in the social sciences, education, physical sciences, engineering, biological sciences, medicine, and environmental sciences.
