Aalto University, Dept. of Mathematics and Systems analysis

Aalto University is created from a high-profile merger of the leading universities in Finland – the Helsinki School of Economics, the Helsinki University of Technology and the University of Art and Design Helsinki – Aalto University opens up new possibilities for strong multi-disciplinary education and research. The Aalto University is strongly future-oriented while, at the same time, building on the combined 300-year-history of three highly regarded universities. The university has 11 000 students and a staff of 4,700 including over 400 professors. The Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis in the School of Science conducts research and teaching in mathematical analysis, numerical analysis, stochastical analysis, algebra, combinatorics and their applications and also systems science & operations research. In the recent Aalto Research Assessment Exercise, the panel stated: "This is a high-quality research unit that stands out among mathematics departments across the world in virtue of its ability to attract external funding and to engage even the students in concrete applied projects originating from needs of the Unit’s non-academic partners."
