Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis (https://math.aalto.fi/en/) at the Aalto School of Science is seeking several

Doctoral Candidates in Mathematics, Operations Research and Statistics

The candidates will work within one of the department’s main research areas:

- Algebra and discrete mathematics, - Analysis and partial differential equations, - Numerical analysis, - Stochastics, statistics and mathematical physics, - Systems and operations research.

The positions primarily involve graduate studies with the goal of a doctoral degree. All doctoral candidates are required to participate in teaching of bachelor’s and master’s level courses as teaching assistants.

The positions will be located at the Aalto University’s Otaniemi Campus, and they will be filled at the latest in August 2022. The precise starting date is negotiable.

Requirements

An applicant must have completed by August 2022 - a master’s degree awarded by a university, or - a study programme that in the awarding country gives eligibility for doctoral level studies in Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or a closely related field. Moreover, a good command of English is required.

Salary and duration

The contracts will have the structure of 2+2 years, with a midterm review before the second two-year period. The standard salary level starts at 2 565€ per month, with scheduled raises when signing the second two-year contract and when submitting the doctoral thesis for pre-examination. The annual total workload is 1612 hours.
