Central China Normal University, School of Mathematics and Statistics

The School of Mathematics and Statistics (SMS) is a key school of Central China Normal University (CCNU), Wuhan China. It was founded in December 2002, and its history is back to 1930s. The School is now composed of three departments: Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Department of Information and Computing Science, and Department of Statistics. There are 3 disciplines for undergraduates: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Information and Computing Science. The School also promotes interdisciplinary education by piloting cross-training experimental Mathematics-Physics class and Mathematics-Economics experimental class. The Key Laboratory of Hubei Province in Mathematical Physics, and the Laboratory of CCNU on Nonlinear Analysis are also affiliated to the School. Through the years, the faculty has grown into a well-balanced team in age and specialty, with the middle-aged members as its core. There are 115 faculty members and staffs in the School including 32 professors and 34 associate professors. The faculty members have received a great number of research grants in recent years, including one fund for the “1,000 Talents Plan” of Chinese National Government, three funds for “Distinguished Scholar of NSFC”, and seven programs for “New Century Excellent Talents” from the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Based on their research interests, the faculty members form several major research groups including those in Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations, Nonlinear Analysis and its Application, Harmonic Analysis, Algebra and its Applications (Coding and Cryptography, Number Theory), Dynamic Systems and Biomathematics, Probability, Statistics and Big Data, Graph Theory and Optimization, Computational Mathematics, Fractal, Wavelet, Tiling and the related topics. All of faculty members are involved in four research centers at the SMS: Center for PDE, Center for Algebra and Its Applications, Center for Dynamic Systems, and Center for Statistics & Big Data. The School devotes all itself to talent training. Currently, there are about 1900 undergraduates, more than 500 graduate students in our School including 50 foreign graduate students. One doctoral dissertation of our graduate was awarded while another one was nominated, as the “Best 100 Doctoral Dissertation in China”. The School has one “National Teaching Team” and one “Hubei Provincial Teaching Team”, four “Hubei Provincial Excellent Courses” in which one is ranked “National Excellent Course”, and one “National Demonstration Course of Bilingual Teaching”. The School has brought up more than 10000 B.Sc. and nearly one thousand M.Sc and Ph.D since 1930. The abundant achievements of the School in both research and talent training received a series awards by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and Hubei Provincial Government and have been well recognized all over the country.
