Central China Normal University, School of Mathematics and Statistics

The School of Mathematics and Statistics (SMS), founded in 2002, is a key school of Central China Normal University (CCNU), Wuhan, China. It grew out of the Department of Mathematics which can be traced back to 1950s. Currently, the School consists of three departments: The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, the Department of Information and Computing Science, and the Department of Statistics. The Key Laboratory of Hubei Province in Mathematical Physics, and the journal “Communication in Mathematics” which is focused on Mathematics at Secondary School level, are also affiliated to the School. Based on their research interests, the faculty members form some major research teams including those in Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations, Nonlinear Analysis and its Application, Harmonic Analysis, Representation Theory, Coding and Cryptography, Number Theory, Dynamic Systems and Biomathematics, Statistics and Big Data, Graph Theory and Optimization, Computational Mathematics, Fractal, Wavelet, Tiling and the related topics. All of faculty members are involved in four research centers at the SMS: Center for PDE, Center for Algebra and Its Applications, Center for Dynamic Systems, and Center for Statistics & Big Data. The School devotes all itself to talent training. Currently, there are about 1500 undergraduates and more than 500 graduate students in our School including 50 foreign graduate students. So far, the School has successfully cultivated more than 10000 B.Sc. and nearly 1000 M.Sc and Ph.D. The immense achievements in both research and talent training has earned the School series of awards by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and Hubei Provincial Government, and recognition all over the country.
