Pay Range: $50,000 - $83,000. Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
 
The Opportunity: The Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for a non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor who will actively participate in teaching new and existing curriculum within the subject of Quantitative Bioscience and Engineering (QBE). Mines is currently developing a new multi- and interdisciplinary undergraduate program at the interface between biology, physics, chemistry, computer science, engineering, data science, and mathematics. We are particularly interested in candidates who have the potential and desire to work closely with existing faculty to develop our QBE curriculum, including a two-semester, sophomore-junior level course, Introduction to Quantitative Bioscience and Engineering. There may also be opportunities to teach graduate level courses within our QBE graduate program. A qualified applicant will have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver course materials to undergraduate and graduate students in traditional, hybrid, and online platforms demonstrating teaching excellence.
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Contribute both institutionally and professionally through active service.
  • Cultivate and promote an inclusive and diverse Mines community through recruiting, mentorship, and service.
  • Collaborate across campus representing the Interdisciplinary Program.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree Quantitative Biology, Engineering (any discipline), Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or closely-related field.
  • 0-5 years college-level teaching experience. Industry experience may substitute for years of teaching experience.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and curriculum development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Established record of successful teaching and service.
  • Communicates effectively among co-workers, students, administration, and other constituents. 
  • Pedagogical content knowledge, general pedagogical knowledge content knowledge of the specific discipline, and instructional technology knowledge. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Quantitative Biology, Engineering (any discipline), Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or closely-related field required by time of appointment.
  • 5+ years of successful college-level teaching experience.
  • Experience working with and developing curriculum for programming language including Python, R, MATLAB, etc.
