Position Description

The Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering is a leading scientific and educational institution in the Czech Republic. We invite applications for an academic position for an outstanding researcher and educator in statistics and/or modern data analysis (including ML/DL).

Research scope – expertise in any of the following areas

Statistics, data analysis, and information theory

Machine learning, deep learning, and data science

Related areas in mathematics, computer science, and interdisciplinary applications

Position overview

Rank: Assistant Professor (tenure-track), Associate Professor, or Full Professor (depending on qualifications and experience).

Tenure-track: an initial 2-year contract, with the possibility of a permanent position following a positive evaluation.

Start date: 1 September 2026 (or by mutual agreement).

Key responsibilities

Conduct excellent research and publish in high-impact international journals or top-tier conferences.

Secure competitive research grants and funding to support and develop research activities.

Supervise and mentor master’s and PhD students, and propose thesis topics.

Develop and teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in statistics, ML, and related areas.

Collaborate with international institutions or industry partners on innovative research projects.

Essential qualifications

Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field.

Strong scientific profile demonstrated by high-quality publications in peer-reviewed international journals and/or top-tier conferences, or by proven ability to secure competitive research funding in an international environment.

Experience with developing and applying modern statistical and data-driven (ML/DL) methods.

Ability to integrate research, teaching, and supervision of student theses, including doctoral students.

Fluency in English is required.

Knowledge of Czech is not mandatory at the time of application; willingness and interest in learning Czech are welcomed and considered a plus.
