Fellowship Description
The Department of Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) invites applications for Teaching Fellowships in Mathematics, beginning September 2026.
These fellowships in Mathematics are intended for early-career scholars within three years of receiving their PhD who show strong research promise, preferably in one of the areas in which Caltech Mathematics Faculty are currently active.
Appointments are normally for three years. Appointees will contribute to the department’s teaching program, pursue independent research, and are expected to be in residence throughout the academic year. Teaching responsibilities and research support vary by fellowship. Summer months may be used for research, scholarly activities, and one month of vacation.
Qualifications and terms of appointment:
- PhD in Mathematics or related field (completed or expected by the fellowship start date)
- Eligibility extends to current postdoctoral scholars
- Appointment term: 3 years
- Salary: $73,000—76,000 in the first year (depending on fellowship)
- Research fund: $1,500—3,000 per annum (depending on fellowship)
- One-time allowance to assist with the move
- Annual vacations: 21 days, not including Caltech Holidays
- Annual sick leave: 15 days
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
