The Courant Institute is a center for advanced training and research in the mathematical sciences. This year up to two Courant Institute Instructorships (CI) in the Department of Mathematics will be awarded to postdoctoral scientists working in the area of Modeling and Simulation. RTG-CI applicants must be a citizen, national or permanent resident of the United States or its territories and possessions.
These positions are co-funded by the National Science Foundation as part of a Research and Training Group (RTG) in Modeling and Simulation, https://math.nyu.edu/dynamic/research/pages/research-and-training-group-mathematical-modeling-and-simulation/ which is managed by PIs Aleksandar Donev, Miranda Cerfon-Holmes, Leif Ristroph, Charles Peskin, and Esteban Tabak. Candidates should contact the PI(s) to express interest and discuss research projects. Other questions about the RTG-CI position should be directed to Aleksandar Donev or Miranda Holmes-Cerfon.
The RTG-CI appointments carry a light teaching load of one course per semester and will be for one year with the possibility of extending to a two-year position based on performance and continued availability of funding. The positions are primarily for recent Ph.D.'s and candidates must have a degree in mathematics or some affiliated science or engineering field, and have research experience in modeling and simulation. Applicants must include a brief cover letter explaining why they believe they are a good candidate for the RTG in Modeling and Simulation. Applications and supporting documents are due by December 20, 2020 for appointments to begin the following academic year.
RTG Instructors will have the enriching opportunity and responsibility to closely interact with and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students at Courant that are working in the area of modeling and simulation. Along with conducting research in the area of modeling & simulation, RTG-CIs are expected to be actively involved in the following:
