Position Description
The McGill
University Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health
(EBOH) and the McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of
Medicine and Health Sciences are inviting applications for a full-time, joint
position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)
The McGill
University Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health
(EBOH) is part of the School of Population and Global Health (SPGH) within the
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned
McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal,
in the province of Quebec. The Department is home to one of the largest
concentrations of doctoral-level epidemiologists and biostatisticians, with
internationally recognized research programs in topics such as Bayesian
methods, big data, causal inference, risk prediction, privacy protection,
spatial models, and clinical trials designs and methods. Recognized as one of
the top academic units for biomedical statistics in the world, EBOH offers a
vibrant and inclusive research environment attracting diverse students, staff,
and faculty.
The McGill
University Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine with over
480 full-time faculty members involved in diverse academic activities spread
out within 15 Divisions. The Department’s educational and research missions
support world class clinical and translational research across our main
teaching hospitals: The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), the Jewish
General Hospital (JGH), and St- Mary’s Hospital. Faculty members within the
Department of Medicine have recently launched major initiatives to expand the
conduct of and training in clinical trials. We host a Graduate Program in
Clinical and Translational Research that seeks to develop leading clinician
scientists and PhD scientists. The Graduate Program currently has two streams
(i.e., Experimental Medicine and Digital Innovation) with a planned third
stream in Clinical Research.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be
expected to:
- Develop an independent, externally funded research program of the highest international standards;
- Successfully compete for research funding;
- Supervise a diverse body of graduate students in both departments;
- Contribute to formal teaching in the Master’s and PhD programs offered in both departments;
- Collaborate with clinician-scientists to design and execute the application of state-of-the-art research methods to address clinically relevant research questions;
- Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and other knowledge translation and exchange activities.

units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must:
- Hold a doctorate in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field;
- Possess significant post-doctoral experience;
- Have relevant research experience in the development and application of methods for clinical research and large complex health-related data, in particular, with clinical trials and/or electronic health record data;
- Have proven track record of research productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications;
- Have the potential to develop an internationally recognized independent research program, a demonstrated ability to obtain grants for their own research, and to contribute to the building of successful research programs;
- Have a track record of effective and synergistic collaboration with clinician and PhD scientists in health research;
- Demonstrate a commitment to, and evidence of, high-quality teaching, inclusive pedagogy, and effective supervision;
- Fluency in English is essential; a working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within a few years of appointment is preferred.
