Position Description
The Department of Mathematics at the University of Luxembourg is offering a doctoral researcher position in differential geometry. The contract is for 3 years; extension to 4 may be possible.The successful candidate will pursue doctoral research in group actions, geometric structures, and smooth dynamics under the supervision of Prof. Karin Melnick. The doctoral researcher will develop an original research project leading to a PhD thesis and is expected to actively contribute to the scientific activities of the research group, including participation in seminars, workshops, conferences, and collaborative research initiatives.
In addition to conducting high-level research, the doctoral researcher will support the teaching mission of the Department of Mathematics through tutorial sessions, grading, and other pedagogical activities, within the framework of the university’s doctoral training requirements. The candidate may also contribute to outreach and dissemination activities aimed at promoting mathematics and research to the broader academic community and the public.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Mathematics or equivalent qualification, with a strong background in differential geometry, Lie groups, or related areas. Applicants should be fluent in English; French proficiency is a plus.
