Position Description

The Department of Mathematics at SUNY Geneseo is seeking applicants for an anticipated opening for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer to begin August 2024. The initial appointment is for one year and is eligible for renewal. The Department of Mathematics (15 full-time members) encompasses both pure and applied mathematics, as well as very strong secondary mathematics teacher preparation and actuarial programs. The Department offers a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, B.S. in Mathematics, B.A. in Mathematics, B.A. in Mathematics with Adolescence (Secondary Education) Certification, Minor in Mathematics, and Concentration in Mathematics for Elementary Education. 

Duties for a Lecturer include: 
  • Teaching introductory level courses for majors and non-majors, with the possibility of teaching more advanced courses. 
  • Providing academic advisement to students. 
  • Contributing to department functioning through committee service. 
Our priority is teaching excellence, and we seek someone with recent and documented experience as a teacher of undergraduates, an enthusiastic commitment to undergraduate instruction at all levels, and the ability to teach a variety of courses that serve our mathematics students.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field completed by time of appointment.
  • Evidence of preparation and willingness to teach introductory statistics courses.
  • Evidence of preparation and willingness to teach introductory level math courses.
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working and teaching environment.
Preferred qualification: Evidence of preparation and willingness to teach calculus-based probability and statistics courses for math majors.
