The School of Mathematics at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for at least one Academic Professional position in mathematics, with an anticipated start date in mid 2022. These positions are non-tenure-track 12-month faculty appointments, and are subject to annual evaluation.

The context for this position is as follows:

1. The role of Academic Professionals is vital to advancing our educational and research training, inter- and intra-disciplinary collaborations, and teaching in the School, with integrated forward-looking technology and academic administration. The School is establishing a new collaborative hub M@TH (Math @ Tech Hub), which will be a regional and global center for extended and flexible research collaborations, training innovations, and outreach activities. 2. Through M@TH, we seek to expand capacity to fund, support, and run collaborative research and training activities in the mathematical sciences, efficiently and effectively. 3. With the support of this position, we will Increase visibility and competitive advantages for School members in advancing mathematics research and training. The position includes administrative support of both School activities and M@TH programs, including the training of students, faculty, and staff, and opportunities for teaching in the School. The School of Mathematics Academic Professional will be assigned duties from the following:

a) administrative support for technology in SoM and for M@TH, specifically related to collaboration technology, distance learning, training in scientific computing, administrative IT tools, and/or technology related curriculum improvements; b) dissemination of information on scientific activities of M@TH and other externally supported research activities; c) Facilitating access and training in tools and methods for scientific computing and other research-related IT needs, including delivery of tutorials and/or courses as needed. d) Liaison between IT support at the College and Institute levels, to assist in matching high level IT support with School IT needs in support of research and teaching; e) Administrative support for Schools communication needs;

f) Other duties assigned in alignment with the School’s needs and individuals’ strengths. These may be selected from the following; support for integration of technology in courses; administration and assessment of innovative curricula, support for professional development of students and junior researchers; teaching of undergraduate courses within a balanced workload.

This list is likely to evolve together with future needs and priorities of the School of Mathematics and of Georgia Tech.

Expertise and interest in research collaboration involving scientific computing with SoM members or others at GT will be considered a plus. Similarly, the ability to contribute to the teaching mission of the School as needed is also valuable.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent credentials, with clear potential for taking on considerable responsibility in the use of technology in research, teaching, and collaboration, and in related administrative tasks. Candidates will possess attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, as well as the broader university community. One or more years of experience in a university environment, and a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field, such as physics, computing, or engineering, is required for this position.
