Fellowship Description

The “Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada” (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, announces a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Mathematics. This is a two-year position, which may be renewed for one more year by mutual agreement between IMPA and the fellow. The fellowship provides a tax-free stipend of R$ 9,000.00, accompanied by an additional annual stipend of R$ 12,000.00 to support academic travels.

The position is open to applicants from all areas of Mathematics, both pure and applied.

To be eligible for this position, applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics or related areas, with a thesis defended within the last 10 years or a thesis defense expected by August 2026. It is important to note that former IMPA students will be considered eligible only if their thesis defense was completed more than 3 years before the application opening.

The selected candidate will have the freedom to pursue their own research program and will be required to teach at least one graduate course per year. Collaboration and engagement with IMPA students and researchers are strongly encouraged.
