Position Description

The Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering, Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) and Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) invite applications for tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in the area of Mathematical Biology. Preference will be given to candidates who conduct research in quantitative methods in the life sciences, including modeling and analysis of biological and physiological systems, cancer and other diseases, neuroscience, as well as genomics. Outstanding candidates at all academic ranks will be considered.

The successful candidate will have a tenure/tenure-track home in one of the two departments. Secondary appointments in the other department is possible.

The excellence of Johns Hopkins investigators in mathematics, biology, medicine, biostatistics, and computational biology provides a rich environment in which MathBio can thrive. The goal of the MathBio cluster is to coalesce efforts and create synergy among the researchers while diversifying the faculty who work at the intersection of life sciences and mathematics. MathBio is fundamentally transdisciplinary and often team driven. This collaborative research environment fosters an inclusive community. The MathBio cluster will be central to all the modeling and computational research in the life- and health sciences at Johns Hopkins.

Opportunities for interactions across the University include: Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare, Translational Tissue Engineering Center, Center for Computational Biology, Alliance for Cardiovascular Diagnostic and Treatment Innovation, Institute for Computational Medicine, Kavli Neuroscience Discovery Institute, Center for Imaging Sciences, Data Science and AI Institute, and the Mathematical Institute for Data Science.

The expected salary range for this position is: Assistant Professors $150k-$200k, Associate Professors $180k-$245k, Full Professors $200k-$450k, for 12-month FTE. The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will be based on factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate – e.g., years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors; geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.

Qualifications Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering or related fields, and will be expected to establish a strong, independent, multidisciplinary, and internationally recognized research program. Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels is required. Ideal candidates include those who demonstrate evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service endeavors.
